Welcome! I’m Kristi Murray, Founder of Creative Order

My Creative Order story... As I child, I always had a plan of being an artist. Between fashion design, interior design and art, I experimented with my path and ultimately chose a degree in Sculpture as I see my ideas in 3D.

In Art School, I found my voice expressing work with depth and meaning. Upon graduation, I was a bit lost of what lay beyond my next door. (side note: that was actually my senior thesis installation- life size doors made of paper) When I was offered a job as an interior designer, I was thrilled! I learned to work with "real life" clients to create spaces that were a true reflection of their ideas. As Chicago city life called me back, I explored my love of fashion as a stylist at Neiman Marcus.

Despite these amazing opportunities to integrate art and design, I found myself searching for meaning in my daily work and decided to pursue a Masters in Art Education.  I have spent most of my adult life as an art educator, continuously making connections, developing skills, and guiding my students through their creative process to express their ideas.

Now I have come full circle discovering that my path of artistic endeavors has led me to Creative Order.  I help, listen, teach, organize, and collaborate to design a space that is a reflection you, your family, your life and all the realities of the way we function in this world.

Thanks for taking the time to learn more about me! Let’s work together to Create the space YOU LOVE COMING HOME TO!

I have come to realize that Creative Order is a culmination of so many of my life experiences as I have traveled in and out of many paths, but one thing has stayed the same... ART!

Creative Order is located in Oak Park, IL and will travel to Chicago and the suburbs

Meet the rest of the Creative Order Team

I am an art educator with a passion for creative problem solving.  I attribute my love of art and design to my family.  My grandmother was a collector of art objects and an art historian, my grandfather was a skilled craftsman who built intricate cuckoo clocks, and my mother has a real knack for organization systems and interior space curation.  I have a Bachelors in Anthropology and Fine Arts and have been teaching art for almost 12 years.  I would describe my art practice as a maker of space and I use my own home like a blank canvas.  I have built garden beds to closet shelves, stretched large canvas frames, and sculpted my own home decor.  I have been collaborating with Kristi either in the classroom or in local homes for the past 7 years, and truly enjoy bringing big ideas to life.

Even while raising two wonderful boys and supporting non-profits that make a difference, I have always been obsessed with beautiful design. At a young age I found myself naturally rearranging furniture and, by my twenties, I started my own “ organize your home” business, where I helped people declutter and refresh their homes. From then to now, I absolutely love bringing design ideas to everyone I meet. Whether new or vintage, a total redesign, or even the addition of a few new pieces that make a real difference, there is nothing I love more than leaving someone excited and nurtured through a new design they love. I look forward to fulfilling your vision including those that know what they want or those who have yet to discover it!

My creative genius is the balance between creativity and technical skills which began in garment construction and drafting in my younger years. I was even the first female drafter in my high school years before CAD was introduced. I have been in the Kitchen & Bath design industry for 35 years transforming over 150 Chicago-area homes into gorgeous spaces with custom cabinetry. I’ve won numerous awards including “Best of Show” published in Chicago Home and Garden’ magazine. Kristi, my daughter, and I we have a lifetime of collaborating, creative problem solving, and now we are excited to officially work together.
